Emoticon HQ Quick Facts: Windows Live Messenger (MSN Messenger)

According to Microsoft, through MSN, they hold a large portion of the IM market share with over 200 million IM clients around the world. MSN messenger integrates MSNBC news, video, Hotmail, games, and more into its real time chat service. Claiming to be an "all in one Internet portal" MSN still has a long way to go before Windows Live Search can come close to the acuracy of Google, but that's not to say that MSN messenger doesn't beat Google Talk in a heartbeat.

Recently, MSN has upgraded its messenger to work beyond the basic Windows platform and enter the world of Apple, working for any Operating System over Mac OS 9.2.2. When an IM service moves to a Mac platform, it suggests that the Instant Messenger has earned appeal with a more artistic consumer. As such, MSN messenger has stepped up its emoticon offerings, making it easy to download hundreds of animated GIFs (animated emoticons) for use on the Windows Live Instant Messenger service.
